transition

spokes
and scaffolding.
hopeful enough
to whisk you away,
as we do eggs.
an omelette glazed
with sweetness opportune.

a never-ending smile
and a sip of orange soda.
on a marble floor,
she showcases
the summer
of one hundred pencil skirts.
a name, a date, an honest friend.

wandering,
hearing from bus to bus.
woman from the side
reminds her,
“straighten your blouse.”
smooths in accordance
and waves “thank you.”

when summer comes,
her fingers will snap
a born appreciation
for synthetic leather
burnt, mean and foregone.
